NEWS/UPDATES

Once or twice a month I post current work, what’s happening in my studio, or upcoming shows and events.

vulnerability, strength, and beauty

In my last post I wrote about strength and how, for me, it is a core quality of masculinity. However, strength does not mean a lack of vulnerability. In fact, I consider vulnerability a deep and important aspect of strength. Vulnerability means being willing to expose yourself. In my recent paintings there is always an exposed element. It is a requirement I set for myself in these works.

These exposed elements show the ‘inside’ of the painting, the experiences and history the painting went through to arrive at what we ultimately see. Vulnerability in myself means allowing others to see the ‘inside’ of me, the experiences and history that make me who I am.

To me, vulnerability and strength are intimately connected and are beautiful.

What do you think?
